Black Bear In Fairmount Park, Wissahickon; NJ Powerball Winners Come Forward; Subaru '16/'17 Recall

A black bear has been spotted wandering around East Fairmount Park on Friday afternoon. A fisherman first spotted the large animal while he was fishing in Wissahickon Valley Park downstream from the Valley Green Inn. The bear was seen near Devil's Pool crossing the creek towards the Chestnut Hill side before disappearing into the woods. The Friends of the Wissahickon advise those hiking, running, and biking in these areas to use caution and remind pet owners to keep their dogs leased while in the park.

The winners of last Saturday's $429.6 million Powerball jackpot have come forward to claim their jackpot. A New Jersey mother and her seven adult children were introduced at a press conference at lottery headquarters in Lawrenceville. The Smith family bought two $2 tickets, one for each drawing on May 4th and May 7th, and added $1 to each for the Power Play. They spent that $6 at a 7-11 store in Trenton. They have chosen to take the $284 million cash payout option and will split it 8 ways. The $429.6 million jackpot is the largest ever for New Jersey and 6th largest for Powerball.

Subaru is recalling some newer model Legacy and Outback vehicles because the steering can fail and are urging owners not to drive them. Steering columns improperly manufactured by a parts supplier are the cause the problem. Subaru will send technicians to customers' locations to inspect the vehicles. Loner cars will be provided. 52,000 cars may be effected. Dealers will stop selling affected vehicles before being repaired. 22,000 have already been sold. Subaru will be contacting those people directly. The recall covers 2016 Legacys and Outbacks made from Feb. 29, 2016 to May 6, 2016. Also covered are 2017 Legacys and Outbacks made from April 18, 2016 to April 29, 2016.
