On Tuesday, the East Pikeland Township Police announced the arrest of a man for theft saying he took money from a daycare that he was placed in charge of. Steve Hughes, 47, of Phoenixville, was a member of the Kimberton Fire Company, and was placed in charge of the ABC 123 Learning Center, a daycare that is owned by the fire company. After an investigation, it was determined that Hughes took money from the day care’s deposits and submitted receipts for items that he used for himself. Officials say that over three years, Hughes took $37,000 from the daycare.

Supporters of expanded gaming in Pennsylvania suffered a setback in the state House Tuesday. House Republican leaders have pointed to increased gaming revenues as an alternative to higher taxes. But the State House on Tuesday defeated two amendments that would legalize Internet gaming and would authorize slot machines at airports. Steve Miskin, spokesman for House majority Republicans, says one of the two measures would have also authorized video gaming terminals.

The Museum of the American Revolution being built at 3rd and Chestnut Streets in Old City is on track and set to open next Spring. More than 82,000 artifact pieces were uncovered during construction. Some of the shattered pieces unearthed date back to the 16 and 1700s. They are puzzle pieces of sorts, attempting to be fitted together to tell the stories of people before, during, and after the American Revolution.
