A student has been arrested in Montgomery County for allegedly setting a fire at North Penn High School on Tuesday. The 17-year-old student at the school has not been identified but is being detained in a county juvenile detention center according to a statement from North Penn School District officials. The flames were contained to the F-Pod area of the building. There was damage to the band storage area and some first floor classrooms. Smoke had spread to most of the school, prompting the evacuation of the more than 3,000 students, faculty, and staff. The student is charged with Arson-Danger of Death or Bodily Injury, Arson Endangering Persons, Arson-Aggravated, Arson Endangering Property, Causing Catastrophe, Risking Catastrophe, Criminal Mischief, Institutional Vandalism to an Educational Facility, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, and Possession of Instrument of Crime.

Thousands of Verizon employees are expected back to work next week after the communications giant and its unions have reached an agreement in principle to a four-year contract. 39,000 landline and cable employees in nine eastern states and Washington, D.C., had been on strike. They had been working without a contract since last August. This marks the end of a 13 day strike. The agreement is now being written now into a contract. It will then be submitted to union members of Communications Workers of America and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for approval. New York-based Verizon Communications Inc. has about 177,000 employees.

Six Flags Great Adventure had to shut down its brand new roller coaster on Thursday after riders got stuck on the ride. It happened at the park in Jackson, NJ, on the new The Joker ride. The ride is billed as a 4-D, free-fly coaster, with "gravity defying somersaults with utter unpredictability." One car came into the station stuck in a reclined position after all those flips. Maintenance had to make adjustments to the car to free the riders. The ride was reopened on Friday to season ticket holders and will be open to the general public on Saturday.
