Fire broke out during Memorial Day celebrations at an American Legion post in the city's Frankford section. It happened around 3 p.m. at American Legion Post 396 on the 2300 block of Orthodox Street. Smoke was seen coming from a dumbwaiter by the bar. A motor had ignited a tiny fire in the attic. Attendees at the annual dinner banquet were forced to evacuate after it couldn't be contained with extinguishers. The blaze eventually went to 4-alarms and took 2 ½ hours to contain. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and went to the hospital. No one else was injured in the fire. The official cause of the fire has not yet been determined.

A man was found drowned on Monday morning in Pennypack Creek in Northeast Philadelphia. Two fishermen spotted a body in the water near the 8500 block of Verree Road around 9:30 a.m. The man has been identified as 68-year-old Alexander Ross. They believe that Ross went into the water to rescue his dog and got swept away by the current. Ross' dog was found wet standing by his car. An autopsy will be performed to determine exact cause of death.

Officers responding to a call of a "person screaming" in North Philadelphia on Monday afternoon, discovered a dog attacking a 4-year-old girl. It happened at 10th and Ontario Streets around 4:45 p.m. The dog was shot multiple times by police. The little girl suffered a bite on the face. She was treated on scene and is expected to be ok.
