SEPTA Rail Headaches; Fireworks TV Coverage; Temple Names Epps Provost

SEPTA Regional Rail riders dealt with major disruptions this morning. SEPTA had to take about one-third of the cars out of service due to structural problems found in the suspension system. Revised schedules are on SEPTA's website.

The Wawa Welcome America! festival's television coverage moved to NBC10 this year. Rain fell on the Concert during a tribute to Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff celebrating the Sound of Philadelphia featuring The O'Jays, Harold Melvin's Blue Notes and The Intruders. TV coverage spent more time in other cities until the fireworks display which was mostly obscured by smoke.

Temple University has elevated law school dean JoAnne Epps to provost, its number-two position, replacing Hai-Lung Dai, who was removed from the post last week as the school´s head of academics. The appointment is subject to approval by the board of trustees. Epps, 65, who has spent 31 years at the law school, the last eight as its dean, was appointed by President Neil D. Theobald. Her title will include senior vice president and chief academic officer also, and she will oversee academics across the university's 17 schools and colleges and 12 administrative offices.
