SEPTA Interim Schedule, PA Budget Bill, Gas Prices Down

Thanks to loaned equipment from Amtrak, NJ Transit, and MARC in Maryland, there will be 1700 additional seats on SEPTA's Regional Rail lines come Monday morning. SEPTA released a new interim schedule Sunday night to reflect the addition of three borrowed locomotives and 18 passenger cars. Septa officials announced on July 3rd that the agency pulled 120 of its Silverliner V cars, due to a structural defect. It resulted in a loss of 13,000 seats on Regional Rail lines, until those cars can be repaired or replaced. The new interim schedules are posted here:

Governor Wolf made the surprise announcement Sunday night that he will allow the state budget bill on his desk to become law, even if there is no revenue package to pay for it. The legislature approved a budget bill on June 30th and Governor Wolf has until Monday night to act on it. Since the budget was passed, lawmakers and the governor have been unable to agree on a plan to pay for it. Absent revenue legislation, many people believed Wolf would at least partially veto the budget bill to bring it into balance. But instead, the governor says if he doesn’t get that revenue package by Monday night, he will simply allow the budget to become law without his signature…

Gas prices are still sliding down. AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the national average cost of a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.24 — that’s 52 cents less than it was a year ago. Here in the five-county Philadelphia area, regular goes for $2.35 a gallon, 55 cents cheaper than last year. South Jersey maintains its reputation for cheap fuel — a gallon of regular gasoline costs a dollar-99 ($1.99). AAA says while the cost of gas may continue to fall through the month, a number of issues, including geopolitical tensions overseas or hurricanes here at home, could give those prices a boost.
