Giffords Addresses DNC, VP Biden Takes DNC Stage, Climate Change Hot With Millennials

Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was on hand for the third day of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. She discussed gun violence in the United States after being shot in 2011. Giffords said she learned a powerful lesson while in congress. "Strong women get things done." She said that Clinton earned her support because she believes a Clinton White House would fight against gun lobbyists. Giffords summed things up by saying, "speaking is difficult for me, but come January, I want to say these two words: Madame President."

Vice President Joe Biden took the stage on Wednesday night to address the Democratic National Convention. Biden opened the speech by touting the legacy of the Barack Obama administration. Biden thanked the delegates for the eight years that he spent as the vice president of the nation and called President Obama, and Michelle Obama, family. After asserting the success of the Obama administration, Biden emphasized his hope that Clinton could pick up the mantle. He then attacked Donald Trump based on one of the phrases that Trump has made famous, posing the question of how could anyone find pleasure in saying the phrase, "you're fired."

Studies show an overwhelming number of millennials believe climate change is having a negative affect on the Earth, and that was the topic of conversation at a get out the vote event in Center City. Bartenders at Bru filled glasses of free beer while visitors sipped and discussed the issues that matter to them. The #WhyWeVote event moderated by BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith touched on a few subjects, but climate change was on top of the agenda. Ben Wessel is the Millennial Vote Director at NextGen Climate and he says progress starts at polling places.
