West Parkside Two Year Old Killed, Thai Rolled Ice Cream, Don't Breathe Tops Weekend Box Office

Authorities say a two-year-old boy has died after getting struck by a car Sunday night in West Philadelphia. This happened around 6:45 p.m. in the 4800 block of Merion Avenue in West Parkside. Police say the child ran between two parked cars then out on the street before the car hit him. He was taken to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he was pronounced dead. Authorities say the driver remained on the scene.

Philadelphia's summer food trend has definitely been Thai-rolled ice cream. There are now four Philadelphia shops that offer it, with a fifth one coming in the fall. Yan Cai's Iceland store in Chinatown was the first ice cream shop to offer the dessert here in Philadelphia, which is made to order on a frozen pan and then scraped up in the shape of a scroll. The busiest shop this summer has been Sweet Charlie's in Washington Square West.

'Don't Breathe,' finished first on its debut weekend by earning an estimated $26-million. That dropped August's box office champ, 'Suicide Squad,' into the runner-up spot. It took in another $12-million as it continues to approach the cumulative $300-million mark. Third and fourth place went to holdover animated attractions, ‘Kubo and the Two Strings’ and ‘Sausage Party,’ with just under $8-million each. And fifth was the debuting action thriller, ‘Mechanic: Resurrection,’ which earned just over $7-million.
