Chritmas Tree Lighting in Philadelphia

On Tuesday, Philadelphia will light the Christmas Tree on Rittenhouse Square. The Tree Lighting Ceremony features holiday entertainment, character visits, complimentary roasted chestnuts, Santa Claus and plenty of holiday surprises. The Christmas Tree itself is more than 30 feet tall. The Salvation Army will be collecting unwrappped toys for needy children and TD Bank will be handing out free elf hats. The tree lighting ceremony starts at 5pm Tuesday on Rittenhouse Square.

Tree Lighting Ceremony at Rittenhouse Square
Date: November 30, 2010
Time: 5 pm

Overview
Once Santa flips the switch, Rittenhouse Square will be illuminated by 5,000 brilliant, multi-colored globes. These holiday lights will join Philadelphia’s largest Christmas Tree — located in the center of the Square — to make Rittenhouse Square one of Center City’s most festive public spaces for the holidays.

The celebration will also include games and holiday entertainment from Chestnut Hill Academy and Springside School.

Embrace the spirit of the season by bringing an unwrapped toy for a deserving child during the CBS 3 and CW 57 Joy of Sharing campaign to benefit the Salvation Army.

Stay Warm
Get a free elf hat and enjoy holiday treats TD Bank on the corner of 18th and Walnut Streets. While you’re sipping on hot chocolate, pose for a photo with Santa until 7 pm.

Holidays on the Square
Start the day shopping along Rittenhouse Row. Then make your way to Rittenhouse Square at dusk, where carolers and hot chocolate will have you toasting season.

Afterwards, eat, drink and be merry — and take advantage of happy hour and the fine dining options offered at Rittenhouse Square’s restaurants, lounges and bars
