The Philadelphia Zoo has announced that the new baby gorilla is a girl and has launched an online poll for the public to vote on her name. The lowland gorilla was born last month, but since she was being held so closely by her mother, 21-year-old Honi, zoo staff could not determine her sex. The baby's father is 31-year-old Motuba. This is the first gorilla born at the Philadelphia Zoo in 20 years. The public can now vote on a name. The four eligible names were taken from four orphaned gorillas at the Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center (GRACE), located in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The names are Amani, Isangi, Mapendo or Muyisa. You get 1 vote for every $1 you donate. All proceeds go to GRACE. You will also be entered into a contest to win a Zoo prize package. You can see the gorillas at the zoo's Peco Primate Reserve. Go to http://philadelphiazoo.org/vote to participate.

Two separate shootings last night in Philadelphia have left 1 dead and 4 injured. The first happened around 8 pm. on the 1300 block of East Johnson Street. A 22-year-old man was shot in the face and taken to Albert Einstein Medical Center where he died. A 20-old-man was shot in the leg and and 18-year-old was shot in the arm. Both remain at Einstein. Around 9:15, another shooting in Southwest Philadelphia sent two more males to the hospital. An 18 and 24-year-old suffered gun shot wounds to the leg. They are at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition. No arrests have been made.

A trial date has been set for three Delaware high school girls in the beating death of a classmate in a school bathroom this past spring. The three teens will be tried in Family Court starting April 3rd, 2017, in a non-jury trial. 16-year-old Amy Joyner-Francis was attacked in a bathroom at Howard High School of Technology in Wilmington before school in April. The autopsy determined that she had a heart condition and died of sudden cardiac arrest. One of the defendants, a 16-year-old girl charged with criminally negligent homicide, will not be tried as an adult. She will join the other two as a juvenile. They are charged with charged with conspiracy.
