False Gunman Report at Willow Grove Mall, Smoke on SEPTA Train, Funeral Services for DE Firefighters

Police were called to the Willow Grove Park Mall Tuesday after a man was reportedly spotted with a gun inside of the mall. Police showed up to the mall at 6:30 pm on the 2500 block of West Moreland. Once on the scene, police discovered the gunman report to be false. It turned out just to be a man carrying a cell phone which was mistaken for a gun. With the threat of a gunman, some businesses in the mall were on lockdown for precaution.

A SEPTA train on the Paoli/Thorndale line was stopped Tuesday after smoke was spotted in a leaving Center City. SEPTA shut off power to the train after getting the report and shut down the Paoli/Thorndale line as a precaution. Firefighters were called out to the Overbrook station where the train was stopped and inspected for any issues. Passengers were taken off the train for their safety. SEPTA says there was no fire, but are looking into the cause of the problem. Service for the Paoli/Thorndale line resumed after about a half hour.

Funeral arrangements for the two firefighters who lost their lives this past Saturday while fighting a house fire in Wilmington, DE were announced on Tuesday. A public viewing for Senior firefighter Jerry Fickes Jr. will be held at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hockessin, DE on Thursday from 5-8 pm. A second viewing will be held on Friday from 2-4 pm with a private service after for friends and family. The services for Lt. Christopher Leach will be on Friday starting with a viewing at 10 am at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Wilmington. A mass will be held after at noon. A joint memorial for both firefighters will be held on Saturday at 1 pm at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. In Wilmington.
