Day 2 of SEPTA Strike; Dozens Arrested in SW Philly; Chester Springs Armed Home Invasion

The SEPTA strike is now in Day 2 as 4,700 bus, trolley, and subway workers are out of the driver seat and on the picket lines. Regional Rail lines experience delays this morning anywhere from 20-45 minutes as the only option for commuters to get into Center City. This, however, was nothing compared to last night when many trains had to be canceled due to picketing activity. SEPTA has obtained an injunction from Philadelphia Common Pleas Court that prevents striking workers from interfering with the Regional Rail. SEPTA officials and the Transit Workers Union are still talking. Pension and work rules such are driver fatigue and breaks are sticking points.

Dozens were arrested last week in a 3-day sweep conducted by Philadelphia Police in Southwest Philadelphia. 64 adults and 1 juvenile were arrested during the period of 10/26-28. Most of the arrests were for drug warrants or during drug investigations. Police seized 3 guns, 15 vehicles, $6,000 in cash, and $30,000 in drugs. The operation was meant to show the community that the police are there to support them. Officers served warrants, attacked the open-air drug markets, and spent time engaging with people in the communities.

Police are looking for two suspects who broke into a Chester County home and demanded money from the residents at gunpoint. Around 1:19 a.m. Wednesday, Uwchlan Township Police went to a home on Byers Road in Chester Springs after a report of a home invasion and robbery. The residents told the officers that two men armed with handguns tied them up all up in one room of the house and demanded money. One of the residents was hit on the head with a gun when he hesitated. Once they were given all of the cash, the two men fled in an unknown vehicle.
