Montgomery County authorities have arrested the nephew of a woman stabbed to death on Friday in Conshohocken. 28-year-old Matthew Wertz is charged with first-degree murder and related charges. Wertz had just been released from jail and had been staying with his aunt. Police were called to the 900 block of Hallowell Street for the report of a disturbance at 5:14 a.m. on Friday. They had to force their way into the home. They discovered 60-year-old Catherine Wanamaker dead on the floor with 40 stab wounds. Wertz was nearby stabbing himself in the neck. Police were able to disarm him and take him to Lankenau Hospital for treatment. Bail was denied. A preliminary hearing is set for December 29, 2016.

An auto shop owner shot a would-be robber in Southwest Philadelphia on Saturday night. It happened around 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the 6800 block of Paschall Avenue. The 30-year-old suspected robber was armed. He was shot in the chest, right shoulder and right buttock. The suspect was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition. No word on charges.

A pizza driver in Northeast Philadelphia opened fire after being set up and robbed during a delivery. It happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Wellington Street. The driver was grabbed from behind by two men while approaching the house. They were able to steal $82. The driver, who was licensed to carry, shot at the robbers. He hit one in the ankle as they fled. Police officers were able to track them to a nearby home. Authorities say there has been a pattern of crime in the area involving pizza delivery drivers. They believe this driver was lured to the address. The suspects in custody may be linked to other crimes.
