Camden County Police Force

CBS 3 reports efforts continue to create a Camden County police force, with the City of Camden it’s only confirmed participant so far.

One city councilman wants the National Guard brought in. State and city officials are discussing response options. Long term, Camden County Freeholder Director Lou Cappelli believes the countywide plan will put more officers on the street. And while national studies now peg Camden as America’s second most dangerous city, Cappelli disputes that.

He’d like to see more state police brought in, not the Guard, while the city and county finalize specifics on the new force. Once that’s done, the plan could be put in effect in 4-6 months.

“There are certainly some crime problems in Camden city that are generally limited to specific neighborhoods. But Camden city overall is a safe city,” Cappelli explains.
