Deadly Car Crash On NJ Turnpike, Soda Tax Lawsuit Dismissed, NJ Police Search For Murder Suspect

New Jersey State Police are now investigating a deadly car crash that took place in Burlington County Monday night. The incident took place in the southbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike in Westampton at around 9:45 pm. Police were originally called onto the scene about a crash involving a work crew. When they arrived they discovered that a driver of a pick up truck had crashed into a broken down tractor trailer. One person has died from the crash and police are still investigating the exact cause of the crash.

A judge has now dismissed a lawsuit case against the soda tax in Philly that will be put into effect next month. Common Pleas Court Judge Gary Glazer rejected the case on Monday after members of American Beverage Association as well as other opposers filed for a lawsuit on the tax. They argued the bill stating that the tax duplicates the taxes already on soda, making it unfair for drinks to be taxed based on their size not price. The soda tax would hike up 18 cents on a regular 12 oz soda, as well as adding an additional $1.44 on a regular 6 pack of soda. Two cities already have soda taxes, but more than 30 cities and states have rejected similar proposals.

New Jersey State Police are now searching for a man wanted for the murder of his estranged wife in Cumberland County. The suspect is 32-year-old Jeremiah Monell who is wanted for murder after his wife, 36-year-old Tara O'Shea was found dead in their home in Commercial Township on Monday morning. According to friends and family, O'Shea has been in an abusive relationship with her husband for years. Police stated that Monell ended up slitting her throat in front of their 12-year-old son. Monell was last seen driving a 1994 Blue Chevy. He is charged with murder and related weapons possession charges. Anyone with information on Monell's whereabouts is asked to contact New Jersey State Police.
