Salt Truck Stuck in Wires on 202; Charges in Abington Teen's Death; Ft. Lauderdale Shooter Charged

A snowplow/salt truck driver got caught in power lines and a traffic light in Delaware County on Saturday afternoon. It happened early Saturday afternoon on northbound Rt. 202 in Chadds Ford near Rt. 1. The driver was attempting to shake or 'bump' salt from the front to the back by raising the trailer. He either didn't realize how high he raised it or how low the lines were but he struck and got stuck under the wires and traffic light. Area businesses and homes lost power for a short time and the road was closed while the scene was cleared.

Charges are expected to be filed in the murder of a 14-year-old Montgomery County girl who went missing last July and whose body was found by hunters in October. Grace Packer of Abington was reported missing by her mother, 41-year-old Sara Packer, on July 11th. She told authorities said that her daughter left after an argument and took $300. After the initial report, however, the mother was uncooperative in the search, never providing a photo, and moving to Quakertown without notifying police. She also continued to collect disability payments for her missing daughter. Grace's dismembered remains were found on October 31 in a wooded area in Bear Creek Township, Luzerne County, by passing hunters. Her mother was arrested and charged in December with obstruction and endangerment. She was also named a person-of-interest in Grace's death. The identify of the suspect who will be charged with the teen's murder has not been released.

UPDATE: Charges have been filed against both the mother and her boyfriend 44-year-old Patrick Sullivan. They have been charged with kidnapping, rape, murder, and related offenses.

The gunman arrested in the attack on the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on Friday afternoon has been charged. 26-year-old Esteban Santiago is charged with performing an act of violence against a person at an airport serving international civil aviation that caused serious bodily injury; using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence; and causing the death of a person through the use of a firearm. Those are federal charges and carry the death penalty. Santiago arrived in Ft. Lauderdale on a flight from Anchorage, AK which stopped over in Minneapolis, MN. He had checked a Walther 9mm semi-automatic handgun and ammunition with his luggage. He retrieved the gun upon arriving at the baggage claim in Terminal 2. Santiago loaded the weapon in the bathroom and began shooting randomly. 5 people were killed, 8 were injured. When he was out of ammunition, he laid on the ground and waited for police. Authorities are trying to determine Santiago's motives.
