Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams has received a fine for ethics violations. The Board of Ethics is fining Williams $62,000. They say Williams took nearly 90 gifts that totaled $160,000, including free vacations, a new roof, and a couch. The Board also stated that William has failed to disclose five different sources of income on his statements of financial interests. The $62,000 fine is the largest issued by the Board in its ten year history.

A new Pennsylvania attorney general has been sworn into office, and is taking over the agency that has been under a close eye after the arrest and conviction of former attorney general Kathleen Kane. Former Montgomery County Commissioner and Democrat Josh Shapiro was sworn into office on Tuesday. Shapiro is the third attorney general since Kathleen Kane resigned last year. Shapiro stated in his speech "I won't be afraid to stand up anyone, from the President of the United States to a multi-national company to a dealer on the street corner." Shapiro also stated that his staff will sign a Code of Conduct and he is also appointing a Chief Integrity Officer, and a Chief Diversity Officer.

A $7,000 reward is now being offered for any information in connection with the brutal beating of a 19-year-old soldier. The beating took place on New Years Day in South Philly, Police say that US Army serviceman Austin Freni was attacked by a group of men while he was leaving the Mummer's Parade. Freni spent several days in Thomas Jefferson Hospital with severe face injuries. He has since been released. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Citizen Crime Commision tip line at 215-546-8477.
