Embiid Out Of All-Star Weekend; Flyers Vs. Oilers; NJ Gov. Christie Bad Mouths Phillies Fans

The Sixers have now stated that Joel Embiid will not be participating in the Rising Stars Challenge as well as the Skills Challenge during the All-Star Weekend this upcoming weekend. The Sixers said that he will not be participating due to his injured left knee. The NBA announced that Oklahoma City's Alex Abrines will replace Embiid at the Rising Stars Game and Denver's Nikola Jokic will take Embiid's spot in the Skills Challenge.

The Flyers are coming off of a 1-3 loss Wednesday night to the Calgary Flames. They are hoping to seal a win Thursday night against the Edmonton Oilers. Both teams are coming in with all their strength Thursday night. The Flyers are in a battle for one of the wild-card positions in the Eastern Conference, and the Oilers are in a three-way battle with Anaheim and San Jose for a top spot in the Pacific Division. After their loss Wednesday night in Calgary, the Flyers have stated they cannot afford another loss if they want to make the wild-card spot. In the past five games, the Flyers have only put up four goals, two of them coming from Wayne Simmonds, as well as two from Jakub Voracek. The Flyers take on the Oilers Thursday night at 9.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is at it again, bad talking Philadelphia sports teams. Last month Christie had some choice words to say about the Eagles, saying Eagles fans are "angry, awful people." This time Christie was quoted on SportsNet New York on Wednesday night talking about the Phillies and their fans. Christie said "The Phillies suck, Let's just start with that. They're from Philadelphia. They're an awful team. They're an angry, bitter fan base and it's not safe for civilized people to go to Citizens Bank Park if you want to root for the other team. Ya gotta Believe what? Ya gotta believe we're awful people!" The Phillies took to twitter on Thursday and said "We love our fans and appreciate their unwavering support as we 'bridge' to a bright future!" That was a not so subtle dig a Christie's on-going Bridgegate troubles.
