Former Philadelphia Eagle Joins Suit Against NFL

The list of former players suing the NFL over brain injuries now includes a former Philadelphia Eagle.

The Philadelphia Business Journal reports: Dorsey Levens, who played with the Eagles in 2002 and 2004 and spent most of his career with the Green Bay Packers, has filed a federal lawsuit in Atlanta. The other plaintiffs are former Cleveland Browns and Baltimore Ravens running back Jamal Lewis, former Atlanta Falcons and San Francisco 49ers linebacker Fulton Kuykendall and former Detroit Lions defensive back Ryan Stewart.

“The players maintain the NFL knew as early as the 1920s of the potential for concussions to harm its players,” the report says, and “claim a range of medical problems stemming from their playing days, including memory loss, headaches and sleeplessness.”

The league issued a statement saying, “Any allegation that the NFL intentionally sought to mislead players has no merit” and “stands in contrast to the league’s actions to better protect players and advance the science and medical understanding of the management and treatment of concussions.”

Another former Eagle, quarterback Jim McMahon, is a plaintiff in a lawsuit filed by seven former players over the summer. Earlier this week, there was a report that three former players now in their 60s and 70s had sued the league over its handling of concussions.
