Two women made history in the Philadelphia Fire Department on Monday. Firefighter Linda Long has been promoted as the first female Fire Battalion Chief and Crystal Yates has become the first African-American woman to serve as the Chief of Paramedic Services. Long and Yates as well as 22 other firefighters were sworn into new positions on Monday at the Fire Academy in Northeast Philadelphia. Fire Commissioner Adam Theil stated the department has been making efforts to recruit and promote female firefighters and paramedics.

Philadelphia Police are now searching a suspect who is wanted for stealing an 80-year-old woman's purse while on a bike. The suspect was caught on a local surveillance camera riding his bike around Fairhill Street and Hunting Park Avenue on Wednesday. He is seen riding up to the 80-year-old victim and then grabbing her purse and riding away. The woman suffered minor injuries from the accident. The suspect was last seen riding west on Hunting Park Avenue. Police are hoping someone will be able to identify the suspect riding the bike. Watch video

A New Jersey resident has admitted that he plotted to kill Pope Francis during his visit to Philadelphia in September of 2015. 17-year-old Santos Colon Jr. has now pled guilty as an adult to attempting to provide material support. Colon plotted for a nearly two-month period leading up to the Pope's visit. His plot was to use a sniper to shoot the Pope during Mass on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway as well as setting off explosives nearby. Colon was in contact with whom he thought was a sniper who would help him in his plot, but was actually an undercover FBI employee. He also contacted the FBI employee to buy materials to make explosive devices. Colon was then arrested in 2015 before the plan could be carried out. Authorities have not released a motive. The investigation is currently ongoing.
