The man who was caught on video outside of a West Chester convenience store this past spring sucker punching a disabled man is now claiming he is the victim of attacks at the hands of Chester County prison guards. Barry Baker Jr., who identified himself as "the person whom you guys love writing about," wrote a hand-written letter to local paper The Daily Local News telling of an assault by corrections officers that left him with a separated shoulder and a concussion. Baker is being held awaiting trial. After his initial arrest this spring he was released, but failed to appear in court on another charge. He was on the run for about two weeks until law enforcement tracked him to a hotel in Uwchlan Township.

A man is in custody and a young child is safely back with his family after a vehicle was stolen this afternoon with the child still in the backseat. It happened shortly before 4:30 p.m. near Cottman Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard in Northeast Philadelphia. The 30-year-old father had left the car running with his 3-year-old inside unattended while he was in a store. He saw the thief jump in the car and take off. The child was dropped off in their carseat only a short distance away at the fire house near Holme Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard. The child was not injured. Chief Inspector Scott Small admonished the father saying, "First of all, it's illegal to leave your car with the engine running. That in itself is a crime. But to leave your child inside of the car with the engine running is also a crime. You should never leave your child in a vehicle - especially in the summer." Police received tips about the stolen vehicle and were able to track it down to the 6800 block of Torresdale Avenue in Tacony. They made an arrest around 7:15 p.m. The father was able to positively identify the suspect.

U.S. District Judge Renee Bumb issued her ruling Thursday afternoon in Camden, NJ, that will allow the dune project to continue in Margate. The state-wide dune restoration project was halted when poor drainage created ponding following heavy rains on many of Margate's beaches in the area behind the new dunes and the bulkheads. Several beaches were closed because high levels of bacteria was detected in that water. Judge Bumb stated that the overall dune project must continue because, "delay of this project will result in a domino effect, leaving other shore communities exposed to hurricane damage." She also recognized that "the current conditions of Margate’s beach are not acceptable to anyone." "All parties agree that protecting the entirety of Absecon Island from destruction and devastation by hurricanes and flooding is a critical and worthy endeavor," Bumb wrote. "Similarly, all parties agree that reducing public safety and health hazards such as large ponded areas on a popular beach during the height of summer is also important and necessary. These goals need not be mutually exclusive." As part of the order, the Army Corps will have to fence off any future ponding areas, pump out more than four inches of water, excavate wherever any sludge layer forms from standing water, and erect elevated walkways.
