The Philadelphia Phillies announced this afternoon that manager Pete Mackanin will not manage the club in 2018. He will remain with the team as a special assistant to general manager Matt Klentak. Mackanin took over as manager on June 26th, 2015 when Charlie Manuel was fired. Over the past 2 1/2 seasons he's compiled a 172-237 record overseeing the breakdown of the former championship team and the bottom of the barrel of the rebuilding phase. The Phillies now seem to have a lot of young talent and a bright future. Mackanin will coach the final three games of the season.

David 'DJ' Creato was sentenced today in Camden County court in the death of his 3-year-old son Brendan. Creato pled guilty to manslaughter in August after his first murder trial ended in a mistrial in May. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. He has already served 627 days. Brendan was found dead in October 2015 in a wooded area near his home in Haddon Township. DJ had reported him missing that morning. Prosecutors argued that Creato killed his son because his girlfriend did not want the boy around. Three separate medical examiners could not determine a cause of death.

A man was stabbed to death in broad daylight in Center City this morning. It happened around 7:45 a.m. at 19th and Vine Streets across the street from the Free Library. A man in his 50's was stabbed multiple times in the neck and face. Police were on the scene quickly and made an arrest at 17th and Vine. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No word on the identity of the victim or those arrested. Detectives are investigating a possible motive.
