North Philly Shooting; Found Body ID'd In Cobbs Creek; 26 Dead In Texas Mass Shooting

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a 16-year-old was killed and a 12-year-old was injured in a shooting in North Philadelphia. The shooting took place just after midnight on the 2700 block of North 19th Street. Police say that the shooter pulled up to the house where 16-year-old Marquese Houston and his friends were hanging out and opened fire on them sitting on the porch. Houston was shot in the chest and neck and was pronounced dead on the scene. Police say that the 12-year-old who was shot in the thigh was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital where he is listed in stable condition. Police are still searching for the gunman.

Philadelphia Police are continuing an investigation after a body was found and ID'd in Cobbs Creek Park. Police say that a passerby found the body at the park's Spruce Street entrance at around 11:26 am on Friday. The body has since been identified as 21-year-old Kierra Johnson from Southwest Philadelphia. Johnson went missing this past Thursday. Police say she was found lying face down in a creek bed in the park. Investigators say that the cause of death is ligature strangulation, but the motive for the murder is not clear as of yet.

26 people were killed and about 20 others were injured in a mass shooting inside of a church in Texas on Sunday. Texas police say that the gunman, Devin Kelley, was dressed in all black tactical style gear and opened fire inside of the First Baptist Church with an assault rifle. Police say that Kelley parked his car at the gas station across the street from the church at around 11:20 am. He then began to open fire with a Rugar AR rifle as he crossed the street and continued to fire as he entered the church. Police say as Kelley left the church, an armed resident began to chase him. Kelley was later found dead in his vehicle at the county line. Police are still unsure whether or not Kelley was killed by self-inflicted wounds or by the resident who chased him. Texas officials say that this is the deadliest shooting in the state's history.

UPDATE: Officials now say the victims range in age from 18 months to 77 years. 14 of the victims were children. After leaving the church, Kelley was chased by two civilians. He eventually lost control and crashed his car. The civilians held him at gun point until police arrived a short time later. It is not clear, but at some point Kelley was killed by a self inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of death. In a news conference Monday authorities said that Kelley was having domestic problems and sent threatening text messages to his mother-in-law Sunday morning. His in-laws are known to frequent that church but were not inside at the time of the shooting.
