Suspect in Custody After Newark Standoff; Body Found in Plymouth Shopping Center, 1 in Custody

A suspect is now in custody after a police standoff this afternoon in Newark, DE. New Castle County police were called to a home on the unit block Lawrence Avenue to perform a welfare check around 1 p.m. When officers arrived, a shot was fired at them from inside the home. They immediately called for backup. Route 2 (Kirkwood Highway) was closed as well as area daycares and the Newark Farmer's Market. Police were able to get the man out of the house and place him into custody after 3 p.m. The man's identity or a motive for the shooting have not been released.

Authorities are investigating after a man was found dead in a car in a busy Montgomery County parking lot last night. Police were called to a shopping center on the 400 block of Ridge Pike in Plymouth Township around 6 p.m. Monday. A man, covered in blood, was found slumped over in the driver's seat of a Buick LaCrosse sedan after the car had seemingly bumped into another parked car in a simple fender bender. Surveillance cameras show that two men got into the vehicle, which was parked on the other side of the lot, at around 5 p.m. A few minutes later they got out and ran away. You could see the brake lights of the vehicle go on and off and then the car begin to slowly roll across the lot leaving a blood trail. It came to a stop when it hit the parked lot. The man in the driver's seat moved a little before slumping over. The victim's car was towed to be processed for evidence. Police are treating this as a homicide investigation.

UPDATE: Police have one man in custody for questioning. The 31-year-old suspect is one of the two men seen running from the victims car. The victim suffered multiple stab wounds.

Tonight, Partly Cloudy, temperatures in the low 50's this evening in Center City
