Cerebral Palsy Sucker Puncher Gets 3-6 Years; Trial in Temple Murder; Ridley Hockey Brawl

The man who was caught on surveillance video outside of a convenience store mocking a disabled man with cerebral palsy before sucker punching him in the face has been sentenced to prison. 29-year-old Barry Baker Jr. was sentenced to three to six years in state prison on Wednesday. He had earlier plead guilty to the charges. The incident happened back in May outside of a 7-11 near West Chester. Baker was seen on camera making fun of the way 22-year-old Michael Ryan walked into the store. When Ryan came back out of the store, Baker continued to imitate him and then approached him. Baker suddenly punched Ryan in the face and walked away. He was eventually arrested, charged with assault, and released on bail. While out on bail, Baker missed another court date on unrelated domestic charges and then led authorities on a two week manhunt. The judge sentenced him to consecutive terms. He was given 1-2 years for the assault, 1-2 years for fleeing, and 1-2 years on a probation violation.

The man accused of killing a Temple University student at the beginning of the school year and dumping her body in northeastern Pennsylvania will face trial. 29-year-old Joshua Hupperterz was in court on Wednesday for a preliminary hearing. He is charged with the murder of 22-year-old Jenna Burleigh. Burleigh was last seen with Hupperterz leaving a bar, Pub Webb, on Cecil B. Moore Ave. around 2 a.m. on August 31st. Prosecutors say that the two went to Hupperterz's apartment nearby on the 1700 block of North 16th Street. That is where police believe he killed the student and stuffed her body in a blue plastic container. The next day he took it to his mother's home in Jenkintown before using Lyft to transport the storage bin to his grandmother's house near Scranton. That is where it was discovered by police.

Five former players from Ridley High School's hockey team will stand trial on assault charges stemming from an on ice brawl during a Flyer's Cup game back in March. It happened on March 9th at the Hatfield Ice Arena in Montgomery County with 7 minutes left in a quarterfinal game between Ridley and Central Bucks West. CB West was leading Ridley 7-1. Brock Anderson, Jacob Cross, Nate Dunning, Ryan Gricco, and Thomas Plotts are charged with assault and conspiracy to commit assault. Prosecutors contend the players planned the attack. Prosecutor John Gradel said, "When the puck was dropped none of the players from Ridley made a move for the puck, all they did was start throwing punches." Defense attorneys argued that 'fighting is part of the game', however, fighting is not allowed in high school hockey and any offense leads to a suspension. Three CB West players were injured, one had a broken nose and another had a broken orbital bone. Arraignment is set for Jan. 17. See video from the brawl below:
