A University of Pennsylvania student and his family were on the charter flight that crashed in Costa Rica on Sunday. The crash killed 10 US citizens and 2 local crew. William Steinberg was a freshman at Penn. He was on the plane with his parents, Bruce and Irene Steinberg, and brothers, Matthew and Zachary. They are from Scarsdale, NY. The other family on the plane, Drs. Mitchell Weiss and Leslie Weiss and their two children Hannah and Ari, had relocated to the St. Petersburg , FL, area but previously lived in Plymouth Meeting, PA. The Costa Rica Civil Aviation is investigating the cause.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after shooting 4 people in his Monmouth County home shortly before midnight on New Year's Eve. Long Branch Police responded to a call around 11:45 p.m. Sunday to the 600 block of Wall Street. The unidentified boy had killed his mother, father, sister, and family friend with a semi-automatic rifle. His brother and grandfather escaped unharmed. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office identified the victims as 44-year-old Steven Kologi, 42-year-old Linda Kologi, 18-year-old Brittany Kologi, and 70-year-old Mary Schultz who lived with the family. He is expected to be charged on Tuesday as an adult with four counts of murder and one count possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Authorities have not revealed any possible motive.

Police in Bucks County say that a man overdosed while driving and crashed into a home, injuring a man inside and causing the death of the family dog. It happened on the unit block of Gun Road in Levittown around 6 p.m. Sunday. Bristol Township Police say that the man driving a red Honda Civic was unconscious when he left the road, hit a tree stump and went airborne. The vehicle crashed through a fence and into the back sliding doors of the home. The victim was sitting inside and was hit by one of the doors. His wife ran for help and a neighbor came to lift the door off the man. He was taken to hospital with a serious head laceration. The driver of the car had to be revived with Narcan and was taken to Lower Bucks Hospital. Charges are pending, including DUI and related charges. In the chaos, the family's yellow Labrador retriever escaped from the house and was struck and killed by another car.
