Daylin Leach Drops Out of Congress Race; Deadly Crash on Route 202; Home Invasion in Oxford Circle

Pennsylvania Democratic State Senator Daylin Leach has announced that he will end his campaign for US Congress. Leach has been accused of inappropriate behavior by multiple female employees and campaign aides. In a Facebook post on Saturday night, Leach said that "attacks" against his family and consideration for his teenage boys' lives led in part to the decision. He also stated "how unappealing Congress has become." Leach announced his candidacy for Pennsylvania's 7th district last summer. When the allegations emerged, Governor Tom Wolf and other Democrats urged the state senator to resign. Leach instead "took a step back" from the campaign. In January, Republican Congressman Pat Meehan of the 7th district announced that he would not run for reelection after reports of him using tax payer money to settle a sexual harassment claim. The former lopsided 7th congressional district is now incorporated into the new 4th, 5th, 6th, and 11th. Leach was running in the new 4th district which encompasses most of Montgomery County.

Two people were killed in a crash on Route 202 in Chester County on Sunday morning. It happened after 8 a.m. in the southbound lanes between Swedesford and Mill Roads in East Whiteland Township. 62-year-old Melvin Baskerville was traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes when he collided head on with 32-year-old Monique Pierre. Baskerville's car went off onto the shoulder. Pierre's car flipped over and continued down the road. The highway was closed for about seven hours as police investigated the incident.

Philadelphia Police are investigating a home invasion in the Oxford Circle section of Northeast Philly. It happened around 4 a.m. on the on the 2100 block of Fanshawe Street near Bustleton Ave. Two armed men wearing dark clothing, masks, and gloves kicked in the door. The residents, a 17-year-old boy and 37-year-old man, were sleeping. The suspects attacked the victims, pistol whipping at least one, and demanded money. One victim was able to get away and ran to a nearby Wawa to call 911. Police arrived to find the victims, at least one, with a serious head wound. They were taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in stable condition. It is not clear what if anything was taken from the home. The investigation and search for suspects continues.
