A private trash truck plowed through a Grays Ferry neighborhood early this morning heavily damaging several parked cars. It happened at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday on Reed Street near 26th Street. The driver of the truck told police a mechanical problem caused him to crash into several cars. 10 vehicles in total were damaged. At least one car ended up on top of another. Neighbors were awoken by the noise only to find their cars had been crushed. No one was injured. Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

Mayor Jim Kenney has announced the members of the new Philadelphia School Board. The nine-member panel will replace the School Reform Commission on July 1st. The new members are: Julia Danzy, Leticia Egea-Hinton, Mallory Fix Lopez, Lee Huang, Maria McColgan, Chris McGinley, Angela McIver, Wayne Walker, and Joyce Wilkerson.

The man accused of fatally shooting a Montgomery County woman on Easter Sunday because she claimed he was the father of her infant son has been captured in Connecticut. The Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office announced that 36-year-old Bobbie Mitchell, Jr. of Pottstown was arrested on Tuesday in Waterbury, CT, by the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force and the Waterbury Police Department. He now awaits extradition back to Pennsylvania. Mitchell is accused of killing 23-year-old Siani Overby who sought a paternity test and child support. His cell phone was found on the ground next to Overby's body which revealed text messages between the two.

The teen who shot and killed a father in front of his 2-year-old daughter during a botched carjacking in the city's Spring Garden section will be tried as an adult. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office says 16-year-old Marvin Roberts will not be adjudicated as a juvenile for the murder of 38-year-old Gerard Grandzol. Roberts shot and killed Grandzol during a carjacking outside his home when he refused to give over his keys until he took his daughter out of the car. His brother, 21-year-old Maurice, is also charged.
