A Southwest Airlines flight made an emergency landing at Philadelphia International Airport this morning after an engine blew out mid flight. Southwest Flight 1380 left LaGuardia Airport in New York City and was headed for Dallas. Photos from passengers showed significant damage inside the cabin including windows blown out, oxygen masks deployed, and the cover blown off one of the engines. Emergency vehicles and firefighters met the plane on the tarmac. The Boeing 737 jet was carrying 143 passengers and five crew members. Passengers were removed from the plane by stairs and bused back to the terminal. One person was injured and was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition. Seven other passengers were treated for minor injuries at the scene. The NTSB will be investigating the cause of the accident.

UPDATE: NTSB confirms that one person has died. She has now been identified as Jennifer Riordan, a Wells Fargo bank executive and mother of two from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Federal Aviation Administration released this statement: "Southwest Airlines Flight 1380 landed at Philadelphia International Airport this morning after the crew reported damage to one of the aircraft's engines, as well as the fuselage and at least one window. The aircraft, which departed from New York LaGuardia Airport, diverted to Philadelphia, where it landed at 11:20 a.m. Eastern. Passengers exited the aircraft using air stairs. Please contact local emergency response officials for information on the condition of the passengers. The FAA is investigating the incident and the National Transportation Safety Board has been notified. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation."

Starbucks has announced that it will close all of its more than 8,000 stores nationwide to conduct "racial-bias" training. The company will close all the stores in the US as well as corporate offices on the afternoon of May 29th so that nearly 175,000 workers can undergo implicit-bias/unconscious-bias training. This move comes as part of the company's response to last week's incident in a store in Center City Philadelphia when two black men were arrested while waiting for another friend to arrive. CEO Kevin Johnson has met with Philadelphia leaders as well as the two men. The Philadelphia Commission on Human Relations is also investigating the incident.

Judge Steven O'Neill ruled today that Bill Cosby's prior testimony about giving quaaludes to women before sex can be read into the record in front of the jury during his current retrial. Cosby testified during a deposition for his accuser's civil lawsuit against him in 2006 that he got the pills from a doctor in the 1970's for a sore back. He said he never took them but kept them for other people. Quaaludes were a prescription sedative, now banned in the US, that were also used recreationally. The testimony was also read into record during the first trial. Defense argued that it was irrelevant because there was no evidence that he gave Constand the drug.

Weather
This afternoon, cloudy, temperatures in the mid 40s in Center City
