The man convicted of ambushing and shooting a Philadelphia Police officer has been sentenced to decades in prison. 33-year-old Edward Archer was sentenced to 48.5 to 97 years in prison on Monday morning, 5/14. Archer was convicted of attempted murder, aggravated assault and other charges stemming earlier this year. In January 2016, Archer charged at Officer Jesse Hartnett who was sitting in patrol car in West Philadelphia. Archer unloaded a barrage of bullets, hitting Officer Hartnett several times in the arm. Harnett was able to return fire, chase down, and place Archer in custody. Archer told police that he pledged his allegiance to the Islamic State, but no connection was found with the organization. The incident was captured on surveillance video.

The Supreme Court on Monday, 5/14, has struck down a 1992 federal law that prohibited gambling on sports in most states. The Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act forbade state-authorized sports gambling with only a few exceptions. Nevada was the only state where wagering on a outcome of a single game was permitted. This ruling comes on a case brought by New Jersey which has been fighting for legalized sports betting for years. New Jersey leaders say they are positioned to have sport betting operations at racetracks and casinos opened within the year. The American Gaming Association estimates that $150 billion are illegally bet on sports each year. States are eager to regulate the industry and get their hands on that action primarily to fill budget holes. The NBA, NFL, NHL, Major League Baseball, and NCAA argued against opening up sports betting claiming it would hurt the integrity of the game.

Police in Evesham Township, Burlington County are looking for a man who followed a woman into a store bathroom. It happened on Sunday, 5/13, at the Bed Bath & Beyond Store at 740 Rte 73, Marlton, NJ. The woman told police that the man entered the women's bathroom shortly after her and stood outside her stall. She could see his black boots underneath the door. He was breathing heavily and moaning. After a short time he left the bathroom and the store. Security footage of him showed him standing outside the bathroom and entering after the woman. He is described as a bald black male wearing glasses and a blue shirt. If you have any information, please contact police at 856-983-1116 or the confidential tip line at 856-983-4699. The woman was running along the trail when the man approached her and indecently exposed himself. She described him as a white male, about 25 to 35 years old, standing 5'9" tall and weighing 190 to 200 pounds. He was wearing a khaki-colored bucket hat, white tank top, red shorts and had a black backpack. The victim also told police the suspect had a discolored front tooth.
