A junkyard fire caused serious delays on SEPTA and Amtrak train service through Northeast Philadelphia on Sunday night and early Monday morning. The fire started just before 7 p.m. Sunday, 8/19, near Torresdale and Adams Avenues in Frankford. Thick black smoke could be seen for miles. SEPTA's Trenton and Chestnut Hill West Regional Rail and Amtrak's Northeast Corridor were suspended as the fire burned close to the rails. 30th Street Station filled with stranded passengers waiting for their trains. The rails were reopened around 6:45 a.m. Monday 8/20.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia announced the final determination of two priests that had previously been put on administrative leave. Reverend Andrew D. McCormick was placed on leave in March 2011 and Reverend Monsignor Gregory J. Parlante was placed on leave in June 2017. They have both been found unsuitable for ministry. They have not functioned publicly as a priest since they were suspended. Father McCormick was arrested on charges related to the alleged sexual abuse of a minor in July 2012. He was tried twice in March 2014 and March 2015. Both resulted in mistrials and charges were withdrawn in April 2015. The announcement of his determination was made at Sacred Heart Parish in Swedesburg (Montgomery County) where he was pastor. Reverend Monsignor Gregory J. Parlante was arrested in January 2018 following an investigation. Church staff discovered illegal drugs in a package sent to Parlante in May of 2017. He also was accused of stealing church funds. He entered into an Accelerated Rehabilitative Disposition for first time offenders. An announcement was made at Saint Cornelius Parish (Chadds Ford) where he was pastor. Authorities in Camden County have one man in custody in connection with the shooting of two undercover detectives in Camden earlier this month. Police have caught 20-year-old Juan Figueroa of Camden. They are still searching for two more suspects. Arrest warrants have been issued for 19-year-old Alexander DeJesus of Philadelphia and 26-year-old Ammar Hall of Camden. There is $60,000 in reward money for information that results in the arrest and conviction of those responsible in the shooting. It happened in August 7th. Two plainclothes detectives were sitting at a red light in their unmarked car when they were ambushed and shot. They both were injured and have since been released from the hospital. If you have any information contact Camden County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Detective Matt McKeown at (609) 820-7192.
