Thousands of rare insects and reptiles have been stolen from the Philadelphia Insectarium and Butterfly Pavilion. It happened on August 22nd, and perhaps on other days, from the museum located on the 8000 block of Frankford Ave. in the Holmesburg neighborhood. Over 7,000 animals worth $40,000 were taken. That's roughly 90% of the population at the pavilion. The thieves also took the logbooks staff uses to organize all the critters, making it hard to know exactly what was stolen. Some animals have been returned, including a Mexican fireleg tarantula, but an extremely venomous six-eyed sand spider is still missing. They also stole thousands of cockroaches in colonies. Police believe it may have been an inside job. Two blue employee shirts were found stuck in the wall with knives. Some suspects' homes have been searched, but no arrests have been made. A judge has ordered a New Jersey couple to hand over any money they raised for a homeless man and that a forensic accounting of the funds take place. Last fall, Johnny Bobbitt used his last $20 to buy gas for Kate McClure after she became stranded on I-95 in Philadelphia. McClure and her boyfriend Mark D'Amico set up a GoFundMe account to raise funds to help thank and repay Bobbitt. The fundraiser raised over $400,000 or about $360,000 after GoFundMe's fees from 14,000 donors. Bobbitt claims he only saw $75,000 of the money which includes a camper and a truck which have since been sold. The couple says that they have given him $200,000. The GoFundMe page says they were going to set up two trusts, but so far the money had been kept in their personal accounts. The couple has recently gone on lavish vacations and had other questionable spending. They claim that Bobbitt spent thousands on drugs with money they gave him. Burlington County Superior Court Judge Paula Dow has ruled in favor of the temporary retraining order on the funds, which will be placed in an escrow account. The accusations and speculations on spending will be sorted out over the next ten days with a full accounting due September 10th. The next hearing is September 14th.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol at the Port of Wilmington have seized a large shipment of cocaine hidden inside pineapple boxes from Costa Rica for the second time this week. A narcotics dog with the Wilmington Police Department led police to the pineapples. 244 packages of cocaine were found hidden in the bottom of the cardboard boxes. The seized drugs weight over 100 pounds and are worth $3 million on the streets. The shipment had come from San Carlos, Costa Rica, and was headed to Clifton, New Jersey. No arrests have been made.
