A Philadelphia Highway Patrol officer is in critical condition after his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle in Northeast Philadelphia on Thursday afternoon, 1/3. It happened just after 5:30 p.m. on the 3100 block of Rhawn Street near Rowland Avenue. 48-year-old Andy Chan was t-boned by a 79-year-old man driving a Ford minivan. The driver stayed at the scene. Chan, a 24-year veteran of the force, was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and is listed in critical condition. "We are in a wait mode to see what the doctors or the surgeons will be able to tell us in the coming hours. All we know right now is that doctors are hopeful as we are as well," said Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

UPDATE: 1/3 11:30 p.m. Officer Andy Chan is out of surgery. His is still in the ICU. He is in critical but stable condition.

Philadelphia Police have arrested a man for the attempted rape of a United States Postal Worker in West Oak Lane on Wednesday, 1/2. The attack happened on the 6900 block of Old York Road while the female letter carrier was sitting inside her mail truck. Police have arrested 38-year-old Ariel Hernandez of the 3400 block of Ditman Street. He is charged with attempt to commit rape, indecent assault and related offenses.

A Chester County judge has denied a plea for a lesser sentence by a Delaware County man who shot and killed a teenager during a road rage incident last year. David Desper pled guilty to shooting and killing 18-year-old Bianca Roberson in June 2017 as the two jockeyed for position at the merge of Rt. 100 and Rt. 202 in West Goshen Township. Last month, Judge Anne Marie Wheatcraft sentenced Desper to 20-40 years. Desper's attorneys filed a motion to reconsider the sentence. Judge rejected the plea without comment on Thursday morning, 1/3.
