3 Philly Dental Offices Closed; Murder Charges in Mummer Crash; Man Falls From Masonic Temple

The Philadelphia Department of Public Health has closed down three dental practices for improper reprocessing and sterilization of dental equipment, as well as lapses in injection safety practices. The three Trieu Family Dental Clinics located on 437 West Chew Avenue, 5427 North 5th Street, and 6536 Woodland Avenue were closed on December 7th, 2018 following an anonymous tip. The health department believes the risk of infection is low, but patients who attended these offices between January 1, 2017 and December 7, 2018 are advised to get tested for hepatitis C virus, hepatitis B virus, and HIV. The clinics will not reopen until the health department is satisfied that all of the unsafe practices have been remedied. A hotline has been set up for patients who have questions. Call 215-218-2999 from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Charges have been upgraded against a Delaware man involved in a South Philadelphia crash early in the morning on January 2nd that killed three people, including two Mummers. 29-year-old Keith Campbell of Bear, DE, appeared in court on Tuesday, 3/26, for a scheduled status hearing on his mental health. Campbell had previously been charged with three counts of homicide by vehicle. Prosecutors Joanne Pescatore and Anthony Voci asked Judge James M. DeLeon to add three counts of third-degree murder and homicide by vehicle while DUI. He also faces one count of aggravated assault and related charges. The crash happened around 1:45 a.m. on the 600 block of Packer Avenue. Campbell was fleeing from police in Delaware. He was speeding and had stabbed himself several times while driving. Near the sports complex, he crossed the median and hit an SUV in oncoming traffic. 31-year-old Dennis Palandro, 36-year-old Joseph Ferry and 35-year-old Kelly Wiseley were killed. 30-year-old Nicole Palandro was injured. Ferry and Wiseley had just gotten engaged over Christmas. Ferry and Palandro were in the South Philadelphia String Band and had just performed in the parade. Voci said the murder charges were "due to the extreme recklessness involved in this crash." Toxicology reports show Campbell was under the influence of marijuana, amphetamine, and midazolam (Versed). As for the mental health status, "He's got mental-health issues," Voci said, "but he's competent."

Philadelphia Police are investigating after a man was found dead on a Center City sidewalk early Tuesday morning, apparently from a fall while trying to climb the Masonic Temple. The 26-year-old man was found dead just after 2:30 a.m. at Filbert and Juniper Sts across from City Hall to the north east. Initially, officials thought he may have been hit by a car or attacked. Surveillance video from the Criminal Justice Center showed the man attempting to climb the Masonic Temple and then falling to his death. The man's identity has not been released. No word on why he was scaling the building.
