A contractor working at the intersection of Spring Garden and South Egg Harbor roads in Winslow Township, Camden County, hit a 6-inch gas main causing a leak on Tuesday, 5/14. It happened around 11:30 a.m. Water and debris spewed from the hole like a geyser. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. South Jersey Gas was on the scene to stop the leak and begin repairs. The recently reopened Atlantic City Line was suspended in both directions between between Atco and Hammonton, but NJ Transit buses shuttled passengers. The leak was contained around 3 p.m.

Upper Darby police have arrested and charged a man who struck and killed a 6-year-old girl while he was under the influence. 53-year-old Darrin Forrest of Philadelphia is charged with homicide by motor vehicle, homicide while drinking under the influence, and involuntary manslaughter. He turned himself to police on Tuesday morning. It happened on a Friday afternoon back in early March. Police say that Forrest had been bar-hopping. He was driving a black Lincoln Navigator and backed up, only to run over 6-year-old Jennifer Portillo. He remained at the scene and was cooperative. Police were waiting on blood alcohol test analysis before filing any charges. Forrest's blood alcohol content was .10. The legal limit is Pennsylvania is .08. Bail has been set at 10% of $1 million.

The trial of a South Philadelphia teen in the double murder of two other teens began on Tuesday. Brandon Olivieri was 16-years-old in October 2017 when he allegedly shot and killed 16-year-olds Caleer Miller and Salvatore DiNubile on the street near 12th and Ritner streets. In opening statements, the prosecution said that Olivieri had been embarrassed by DiNubile in a previous fight and went looking for him that night. Olivieri pulled a gun and DiNubile was shot trying to get it away from him. Miller was Olivieri's friend and was hit in the crossfire. The defense claims the prosecution is based on 'inconsistencies, confusion and chaos.' They also point out that there is no gun or forensic evidence that points to his client. There have been heightened tensions in this trial between the two sides. There is added security with an extra metal detector and a courtroom with a glass separation.
