Employee of Minimart Shot in Juniata; Marshals Shoot Machete Man; DA Files Motions for Meek Mill

An employee of a convenience store was shot and injured during a robbery in Juniata on Wednesday morning, 5/22. It happened around 8:30 a.m. at Brito Minimart on the 1500 block of Lycoming Street. Three masked men entered the store and announced a robbery. Then one of them shot the male cashier in his 30s. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition but is now listed in stable condition. It is unclear if anything was taken. However, the store was also robbed on Mother's Day of $900, but that was not reported to police. No weapon was found and no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.

Video of the robbery and shooting released by Philadelphia Police:

U.S. Marshals shot a machete-wielding man near Wissinoming Park in Philadelphia on Wednesday morning, 5/22. It happened around 8:15 a.m. on the 5900 block of Charles Street. 31-year-old Joseph Ankrah was being sought by marshals after he made terroristic threats against an Abington Township police officer on May 13th. He was wearing a ballistic vest at the time and told the officer that next time "it would be bloody." An arrest warrant was issued when investigators discovered Ankrah attempted to purchase an assault rifle and a handgun in March but was denied. On Wednesday morning, authorities encountered Ankrah in an alley carrying a machete and refusing to follow officers' commands, even after being tased. He kept running and U.S. Marshals opened fire, hitting him in the back and shoulder. Ankrah eventually surrendered. He was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and is in stable condition.

The Philadelphia District's Attorneys Office has filed a motion in Pennsylvania Superior Court that rapper Meek Mill, aka Robert Rihmeek Williams, should get a new judge and a new trial. District Attorney Larry Krasner said that Judge Genece Brinkley "created the appearance of partiality" and her court "abused its discretion" when she sentenced Williams to 2-4 years in prison for a probation violation in November 2017. He also said that she took an unusual interest when she checked on him doing community service. Williams' attorney Jordan Siev said, "We are very pleased that the Philadelphia District Attorney's office has confirmed to the Superior Court that Meek is entitled to have his conviction vacated. The brief is also significant in that it marks the first time the DA has publicly outlined in writing that it supports Judge Brinkley's recusal based on her 'appearance of partiality' and 'public perception of unfairness and bias.'" Mill is also seeking post-conviction relief in his decade old drug and gun case because of credibility issues with the arresting officer. "Appellant Williams should be awarded a post-conviction relief in the form of a new trial. In the alternative, his recusal motion should be granted and this matter should be remanded for a violation of probation hearing before a new judge," Krasner said.
