Havertown Woman Arrested in Mother's Death; Crash into 7-Eleven; Meek Mill Gets Hearing

A woman in Haverford Township, Delaware County, has been arrested and charged in the death of her 83-year-old mother in March 2018. 58-year-old Ellen Gottlieb of Havertown was arrested on Tuesday morning, 6/4, and has been charged with the neglect of a care-dependent person, aggravated assault, and involuntary manslaughter. Gottlieb took her mother, Patricia Gottlieb, out of a nursing home and brought her home. She had power of attorney and began to take money away from her mother, including social security and pension payments. The mother suffered a fall in January 2018 and had to be hospitalized. That is when social workers and police discovered the way she had been treated at home. Delaware County District Attorney Katayoun Copeland said the victim, who suffered from dementia, "was found with caked-on feces on her body as well as significant skin breakdown, including numerous sores and stage four ulcers as a result of being left in the same position for long periods of time." She called the living conditions deplorable. "This is a tragic case where a mother was inhumanely treated by her daughter, the very person who was trusted for her care," Copeland said. Patricia died in March 2018 as a result of neglect. Ellyn Gottlieb's bail has been set at $250,000.

Three people were injured after a car crashed into a 7-Eleven store in Delaware County on Tuesday afternoon, 6/4. It happened 12:30 p.m. at Church Lane and Myra Avenue in Yeadon. The driver of the car suffered a medical emergency before hitting a pole and then the side of the building. Only one car was involved. The driver and two passengers were injured.

Philadelphia rapper Meek Mill, aka Robert Rimeek Williams, has been granted an appellate court hearing in Superior Court of Pennsylvania. Williams is appealing a November 2017 conviction on probation violations stemming from a 2008 drug and gun case. Judge Genece Brinkley sentenced him to 2-4 years for technical violations of his probation. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court released Mill on bail in April 2018 while he brought his appeals. In addition to having the probation conviction overturned, he also seeks the recusal of Judge Brinkley. Mill's team is also looking to have the original case thrown out because of credibility issues with the arresting officer. "We're looking forward to the oral argument before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and to, hopefully, having Meek's conviction vacated," Mill's lawyer Jordan Siev said in a statement. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner filed a motion last month in support of Mill. Siev continued, "In light of the District Attorney's recent filing, where he supports the granting of a new trial to Meek and the recusal of Judge Brinkley, we hope to have this injustice rectified once and for all."
