Temple Owls to join Big East Conference

The Temple Owls will join the Big East Conference for football starting next fall 2012, and all other sports the following year.

Temple's football program was a member of the Big East from 1991-2004, but were asked to leave the conference because of poor performance. The past three years have been good for the Owls, with 3 straight winning seasons, 2 bowl appearances, and 1 bowl win. They are currently in the Mid-American Conference.

The rest of the schools athletics will be coming from the Atlantic-10 Conference. That is expected to happen in a year (2013).

The immediacy of the football program joining in 2012 has to do with the exodus of schools from the Big East. Temple can fill in for the recently departed West Virginia and keep the league's schedule at 7 conference games.

Philadelphia is a college basketball city more than a football town. Though it will be fun to have Big East football back at the Linc, Temple Basketball will be bringing to town some of the best basketball teams in the country. Villanova already plays a full schedule of games down at the Wells Fargo Center and the Pavilion, but another conference team will bring even more high caliber games.

You can't forget the added heat to the Big 5 matchup between the two, Villanova vs. Temple .
