A mural dedicated to the late Philadelphia Sgt. Robert Wilson III in 2017 was defaced sometime on Thursday, 6/27. The mural, on the 2900 block of Ridge Avenue in Strawberry Mansion, features a portrait of Wilson in uniform. He died in the line of duty while protecting customers and employees inside a GameStop store during an armed robbery in March 2015. The graffiti contains an unclear message. The Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police are offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of the person responsible. "It's sickening and disgusting that some low-life would deface the mural of hero and fallen-officer, Robert Wilson III," said FOP Lodge #5 President John McNesby. "We will never forget Rob's bravery, courage and valor when he saved lives inside that GameStop store." If you have any information call police at 215-686-TIPS.

UPDATE: The reward is now up to $32,500.

Fire broke out in a strip mall in Cheltenham on Thursday night, 8/27. It started around 8:15 p.m. at the Lynnewood Shopping Center on the 1900 block of Cheltenham Avenue in Elkins Park. The blaze went to three alarms. The fire started inside a beauty salon, which is located towards the end of the row of stores. It also spread to a smoke shop next door. The fire was brought under control at 10:55 p.m. There were no reported injuries. The extent of the damage to the neighboring businesses is unknown. The shopping center also contains a bakery, chiropractor, several restaurants, a bakery, and billiards hall. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Philadelphia Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 has placed some new billboards along I-95. One is advertising a job opening. The tongue-in-cheek sign isn't looking to hire new officers, but to replace the city's top lawyer, District Attorney Larry Krasner. It reads, "Help Wanted: New Philadelphia District Attorney. Please contact FOP Lodge #5." (see below) A spokesperson for the DA said in a statement, "Instead of wasting his members' hard-earned dollars on billboards, John McNesby should figure out a way to deal with the 70-plus officers who've been benched for sharing hateful, bigoted beliefs on Facebook and help the majority of our hard-working, dedicated police rebuild trust in the communities they serve." The FOP put up a similar board in 2017 when Seth Williams was in office. The other billboard on 95 says, "Support the Philadelphia Police Department and victims of violence. Enough is Enough."
