A suspect trying to escape custody was shot and killed outside of a Delaware County District Court on Friday morning, 6/28. It happened around 10:30 a.m. in the parking lot of the court on the 500 block of Ridge Road in the Linwood section of Lower Chichester Township. Delaware County District Attorney Kat Copeland said in a press conference on Friday afternoon that the suspect, 34-year-old Darren Williams, was being transferred following a preliminary appearance before Magisterial District Judge David R. Griffin. He had been arrested for driving under the influence, resisting arrest, drug paraphernalia, and related charges on Thursday night, 6/27. Williams broke free from his cell and tried to run. Officers chased after him and a struggle ensued outside the building. The constable first tased Williams. While wrestling on the ground, Williams grabbed an officer's gun. That's when the constable fired a shot and killed him. Williams also shot himself, but that shot appears to be unintentional. The DA's office interviewed all witnesses and reviewed video to determine the chain of events. The investigation is ongoing.

There is a $25,000 reward being offered by the U.S. Marshals Service for a man wanted in connection with the shooting of former MLB star David Ortiz earlier this month and the attempted murder of a man in Reading, Berks County last year. 31-year-old Luis Rivas-Clase, aka The Surgeon, is considered armed and dangerous. He could be hiding out in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or the Bronx, New York. Rivas-Chase is accused of shooting a man in the back on the 900 block of North Front Street in Reading back on April 22, 2018. That man survived. He is also wanted in the shooting of the former Boston Red Sox star in a Dominican Republic bar on June 9th. Ortiz survived that shooting and is recovering in Boston. If you have a tip about Rivas-Chase, submit it to:

That injured suspect later showed up at an area hospital for treatment. He is in stable condition. The other suspect is still at large.
