Domestic violence assault charges have been dismissed against Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Odubel Herrera after his girlfriend declined to press charges. Herrera appeared in an Atlantic City municipal courtroom on Wednesday morning, 7/3. Melany Martinez-Angulo, his girlfriend, assured the judge that she was not pressured to drop the case. Herrera must complete counseling within 60 days. The incident happened on Memorial Day night, May 27, inside a hotel room at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. He had been charged with simple assault after police found signs of injury to her arms and neck. The couple exited the courtroom holding hands. His attorney told reporters outside the court, "Ms. Martinez and Mr. Herrera are looking forward to getting on with their lives and on with their loving relationship together." Major League Baseball put Herrera on administrative leave after the incident. He will remain on leave until Friday, at which point his case will be reevaluated.

Philadelphia Police are asking the public's help in identifying a group that attempted to rob a man in Center City last week. It happened on Friday, June 28, around 7:30 p.m. near 13th and Arch Streets. The 22-year-old victim was sitting in his car when he was approached by a group of five males. One male went up to the window and asked for directions. The group then demanded his phone and when he didn't comply they assaulted him. The man eventually was able to drive away. The victim suffered a minor cut. The incident was caught on surveillance video. If you have any information contact Philadelphia Police at 215-686-8477.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health has appointed a temporary manager to take care of day-to-day operations at Hahnemann Hospital and St. Cristopher's Hospital for Children. The hospitals' owner, Philadelphia Academic Health System, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection on Monday, 7/1, after announced last week that it was closing the 171-year-old Hahnemann by September. "Placing a temporary manager allows the department to immediately access information regarding the needs of patients and staff at both locations," Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. "In working with PAHS officials to agree to a temporary manager, it allows us to ensure this process continues smoothly. Public health and safety is and always will be the department's number one priority as we work to ensure the needs of southeastern Pennsylvanians are met." Gov. Tom Wolf said in a statement, “A hospital’s mission should be putting public health first and we will hold them accountable to that. A temporary manager will be able to ensure that patient care needs will continue to be met.”
