Democratic presidential candidate Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont will hold a rally this afternoon to protest the closure of Hahnemann University Hospital in Center City Philadelphia. The rally will take place at 2 p.m. outside of the hospital located at 230 N. Broad Street. The hospital's parent company announced plans to close the 171-year-old institution last month citing financial difficulty. It has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The hospital won't be fully shutdown by September, but has already been closing departments such as the emergency room and trauma center, non-emergency surgery and maternity, and moving residency/fellowship programs. Hospital staff, nurses, union officials, patients, and community members have been protesting outside daily asking elected officials to step in and keep the hospital open. Over 2,000 jobs stand to be lost. Last week, Sanders' campaign co-chair, Nina Turner, spoke at a rally to demonstrators outside of Hahnemann.

A Pennsylvania woman bit the leg of an officer in Seaside Park, NJ, while being arrested for speeding and DUI on Saturday, 7/13. Ocean County Prosecutor's Office has charged 30-year-old Jessica Hayes of Bensalem with DUI and related charges, three counts of aggravated assault, one count each of eluding police, resisting arrest, and obstructing the administration of law. It happened outside a Wells Fargo bank on Northeast Central Avenue. Two Seaside Park officers responded to a report of a suspicious woman. While the Seaside Park officers were interviewing Hayes, a New Jersey State Park Police officer arrived on the scene and said he had tried to pull her over earlier. The park officer said that she was allegedly going 70 mph in a 35 mph zone leaving Island Beach State Park. She repeatedly ignored commands to pull over and was dangerously weaving in and out of traffic. The park officer backed off of the pursuit due to the risk to the public. Hayes appeared intoxicated and field sobriety tests were performed. When the officers attempted to take her into custody, she resisted and assaulted the three officer. "It's my understanding that Hayes caused minor injuries to two Seaside Park officers and that she actually bit a State Park Sergeant on his leg," Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said. She was first taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Seven people were shot and injured during a basketball game in West Philadelphia on Saturday night, 7/13. It happened around 9 p.m. at Baker playground at 54th Street and Lansdowne Avenue in Overbrook. Six men and one woman between the ages of 18 and 32 were shot mostly in their arms and legs. One person was shot multiple times. They were all taken to area hospitals in stable condition. There were around 200-300 people in the area for a party and a neighborhood basketball game. Police say that there were two gunman, male between 18 and 25 years old. They were not firing at each other, but rather they were shooting into the crowd. Police do not yet have a motive. If you have any information call police at 215-686-TIPS.
