Montco Teen Wins Fortnite World Cup + $3mil; Three Catholic Churches Close; Delaware Plastic Bag Ban

A 16-year-old from Pottsgrove, Montgomery County took on all comers in Fortnite's first massive esports event at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York and brought home the huge $3 million grand prize. Kyle 'Bugha' Giersdorf beat out the celebrity streamers, the sponsored professionals, and the amateurs to win the World Cup Solo Finals. He dominated the game from beginning to end. His 59 points were well ahead of second place at 33 points and the rest of the field. For the full standing, go here. Comcast is building a dedicated esports arena at the South Philly sportsplex (between Xfinity Live! and the Wells Fargo Center) which will open in 2021. This is the kind of event that will be held at that venue.

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has announced the closing of three churches. These three churches have recently been utilized as worship sites after their parish merged with another. They are closing for financial reasons. The three churches include Holy Trinity Church (South Philadelphia), Our Lady of Ransom Church (Northeast Philadelphia), and Saint Rose of Lima Church (West Philadelphia). Delaware Governor John Carney is expected to sign legislation on Monday that will ban single-use plastic bags. It is aimed at plastic bags used at larger grocery and convenience stores. Restaurants are exempt. Not all plastic bags are banned. Garbage bags, Dog waste bags, Plastic bags meant for carrying certain foods, like meat or seafood, Plastic bags to carry unwrapped or frozen foods, Dry-cleaning bags for clothes on a hanger, Plastic bags for carrying small animals sold at pet stores, like fish, Plastic bags to hold harmful chemicals, like pesticides, Plastic bags to hold potted plants, Newspaper delivery bags are not banned. It does not go into effect until January 2021.
