Philadelphia Phillies RF Bryce Harper and his wife Kayla have announced the birth of their first born son. Krew Aron Harper was born on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019. He was 7 lbs 9 ounces and 19 inches long. The post was made on Instagram. Bryce was placed on paternity leave on Friday, 8/23. MLB allows players to miss three games. He will return to the lineup on Monday, 8/26 vs. the Pirates. Maikel Franco was brought up from AAA Lehigh Valley for the series in Miami, he will be sent back down.

A fire claimed the life of an elderly woman and injured one firefighter early Monday morning, 8/26, in Gloucester County, New Jersey. It happened around 1:30 a.m. on the 1500 block of Division Street in West Deptford. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire engulfing the home. Crews were forced to fight the blaze from the outside. After it was extinguished, the body of 75-year-old Jacqueline Truss was found in the kitchen area. She is the widow of retired long-time West Depford police officer George Truss. A firefighter was taken to the hospital after having trouble breathing, but they are expected to be OK. The West Deptford Police Department said the fire started in a small drum in the backyard and was deemed accidental.

A man was severely injured after being attacked by two dogs in North Philadelphia early Monday morning, 8/26. It happened around 4:30 a.m. near 6th and Tioga Streets in Hunting Park. The incident was caught on surveillance tape. The 57-year-old man could be seen running away before being tackled by both dogs. One was a pit bull and the other was a bullmastiff, which weighed about 100 pounds. The two dogs were biting his arms and legs and dragging his body around the street like a rag doll. Three officers arrived to find the dogs attacking the man. They fired shots at the dogs to get them to stop. The pit bull ran away and the bullmastiff died at the scene. "He has three dog bites at this time - both arms and his one leg. They say the bites to his arm are very, very severe - down to the bone. That's why officers actually applied a tourniquet because his arms were bleeding that heavily," Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said. The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Police are looking for the owners of the two dogs.
