Philadelphia Police have arrested a 19-year-old woman Thursday, 8/29, and charged her in the stabbing of two sisters, one fatally, in the Brewerytown section. Tianna Thomas has been charged with murder, attempted murder, aggravated assault, simple assault and related offenses. It happened around 11:30 p.m. last Monday, 8/19, on the 1500 block of North 29th Street near Jefferson St. The incident was captured on surveillance camera. Thomas lives across the street from the sisters, 23-year-old Shawntae Garrison and 28-year-old Tayshawn Layton. An altercation over a neighborhood dispute broke out. Thomas was seen stabbing both sisters multiple times. Garrison died at the hospital. Layton was treated for her injuries and survived.

Philadelphia Police discovered a large cache of weapons during a welfare check on an elderly man in Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday night, 8/28. It happened on the 9700 block of Northeast Avenue in the Bustleton section. Family members of a 72-year-old man were concerned that he was depressed or suicidal. Police found 50 guns, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, 10 hand grenades, a pipe bomb, and liquid mercury. The man was taken to the hospital for a mental health evaluation. No charges have been filed as of yet.

Five people were placed into custody after a barricade situation in North Philadelphia early Thursday morning, 8/29. Three shots were fired at their undercover police vehicle. The shooter ran into a nearby home and a barricade situation was called. SWAT and negotiators arrived. The 5 persons inside surrendered after an hour. It is not known if the shooter was one of those people, but the investigation in ongoing. No charges have been filed at this time.
