A woman shot her neighbor across the hall and then set her own apartment on fire before shooting herself at a veterans apartment complex in East Vincent, Chester County on Tuesday morning, 9/3. It happened around 6:20 a.m. at the Whitehall Apartments at 3795 Schuylkill Rd. in Spring City. The female suspect shot the male victim several times as he exited his apartment this morning. He was hit in the back and leg, but managed to flee before collapsing in a grassy area to the rear of the building. She barricaded herself in her unit and set fire to her bedroom before shooting herself in the head. The sprinkler system kicked in and put out the flames. Both the victim and suspect were taken to Paoli Hospital for treatment. Their conditions are unknown. The apartment complex was evacuated, but residents have since been let back inside. Whitehall Apartments opened in 2017 with 48 affordable housing units for veterans in need and included a renovation of the historic Whitehall Inn. The motive is not known. Authorities are still investigating.

UPDATE: The female suspect, 49-year-old Anne Konopka, was pronounced dead around 8 p.m. Tuesday.

A Philadelphia man stabbed his girlfriend to death inside her friend's home early Tuesday morning, 9/3. It happened just after midnight on the 3000 block of Agate Street in Port Richmond. The 35-year-old woman was staying with her friend because she was having domestic problems with her 26-year-old boyfriend. The boyfriend somehow got into the home and stabbed his girlfriend multiple times. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The man fled but was taken into custody later. Three children were in the home at the time, one of which is related to the victim. No one else was injured.

UPDATE: Suspect has been identified as 26-year-old Rashall Jenkins. He stabbed 32-year-old Kimberly Wescott. He is charged with murder, endangering welfare and corruption of minors.

A suspect wielding a box cutter was shot and injured by Philadelphia Police in Kensington on Monday night, 9/2. It happened around 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of Front Street and Allegheny Avenue. Two officers on patrol going northbound on Front saw an altercation with a male pedestrian and people inside a Nissan SUV. When the Nissan went to pull away, the man held on to the vehicle. The officers got out to diffuse the situation and the man pulled out a box cutter and began to approach them. Officers repeatedly gave the man commands to stop and drop the cutter, but the suspect lunged at them at least twice. One of the officers then opened fire and shot the man in the abdomen multiple times. That officer is 28-years-old and a 3-year-veteran of the 24th Police District. "One of the officers, after giving numerous commands to drop the utility knife and having the individual lunge at him several times, did discharge his city-issued firearm several times. I don't have the exact count now, we believe it's somewhere around five, striking the male in the abdomen area," Philadelphia Police Capt. Sekou Kinebrew said. The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The incident is under investigation.
