Fashion District Philadelphia opened on Thursday morning, 9/19, after four years of construction on the site of the former Gallery at Market East. The main entrance to the mall is at 9th and Market but there are also 20 other places to enter. It spans 3 blocks and is is 800,000 square feet. 4,500 jobs were created, half of them temporary construction jobs, the rest are permanent retail. It also connects to Reading Terminal Market and of course transportation at Jefferson Station.

The mall features the usual national retail and dining options, but also taps into Philadelphia local establishments. Four local stores will be opening locations in the Fashion District including Dolly's Boutique, The Sable Collective, South Fellini, and American Hats. Local artists have contributed to 9 installations throughout. Streets Dept Walls is a collection of 10 new temporary murals by 11 Philly artists. City Winery Philadelphia is a wine bar that also will have two different sized venues inside. Macy Gray and Emmylou Harris will be appearing soon. (Schedule/Tickets). AMC Theaters will open soon along with an amusement and bowling venue. Our friends, REC Philly will soon open a 10,000 sq ft co-working space designed for creatives. It will include photo/visual studios, recording studios, rehearsal space, podcast studio, and more available for monthly members.

An Amber Alert continues as authorities search for missing 5-year-old Dulce Maria Alavez. She went missing between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. while playing at Bridgeton City Park. Police returned to the park on Thursday, 9/19, to conduct another search with specially trained K-9 units. Police believe that she was abducted while playing on the playground with her younger brother. Her mother was nearby but did not see what happened. After interviews with other people at the park and a full search of the area, authorities say that a Hispanic male, 5' 6", thin build, took her in a red minivan with sliding doors. Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae says a $20,000 total reward is being offered. If you have any information, please call police at 856-451-0033 or text anonymously to TIP411.

Two students were shot near Chester High School on Thursday afternoon, 9/19. It happened around 3 p.m. on the 300 block of West 8th Street. A 15-year-old boy was shot multiple times and is in critical condition. A 17-year-old boy was shot in the left foot. He suffered non-life threatening injuries. They were both rushed to Crozer-Chester Medical Center. No arrests have been made.
