The father of an 11-month-old boy who was shot and critically injured while riding in the back seat of a car last month has been arrested and charged in connection to the shooting. Authorities say that 25-year-old Nafes Monroe was using his son as a 'human shield' while buying drugs with counterfeit money in Hunting Park. 11-month-old Yaseem Munir Jenkins was struck four times, once in the head, and was critically injured. "He was using counterfeit money to purchase drugs knowing that counterfeit money is very upsetting to drug dealers, and when they find out they're being burned with counterfeit money, they act violently," said Anthony Voci, Homicide Unit Chief with the District Attorney's Office. Authorities do not believe this was the first time he tried this scam. Monroe is charged with reckless endangering another person and endangering the welfare of a child.

The caretaker of a 4-year-old girl has been charged with murder after an investigation into her death revealed she had potentially suffered years of horrific child abuse. 38-year-old Samilya Brown is charged with murder, endangering the welfare of a child, and other related offenses in the death of 4-year-old Zya Singleton. Authorities responded to the 1700 block of Folsom Street in Fairmount on October 30th. Brown told authorities that Zya had fallen from a second story window while playing with her cat. Zya was taken to CHOP where medical personnel quickly realized her injuries were not consistent with a fall. They found evidence of homemade stitches, burns, and broken bones that had not been treated by a doctor and healed at home. She had cigarette burns and bite marks and was missing part of her upper lip and nose. Zya died on November 3rd from sepsis due to her various injuries and non-medical treatment. Zya's biological mother had placed the child in Brown's care years ago because she was not able to care for Zya herself. Four other children in Brown's home have been removed

Philadelphia Police are looking for a group of young people wanted in an attack of two women in Center City last month. It happened on the 200 block of South 13th Street in the morning of October 25th. The two women, ages 21 and 22, were walked down the street when they were assaulted by the group of five teenages. The group consisted of two males and three females. The victims say that they stole one of their cell phones. Police have released surveillance footage of the group. If you have any information call police.
