Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney sent a letter to heads of the Mummer's divisions telling them that changes need to be made to address various negative aspects of the parade, including a blackface incident this year, or else the future of the long standing tradition would be in 'jeopardy.' The letter was sent to the leaders of the Comic, Fancy, Fancy Brigade, String Band, and Wench divisions. Kenney called the Mummer's Parade "one of the city's most unique and recognizable traditions." However, Kenney also says, "The future of the parade is in jeopardy if Mummers leadership does not make immediate changes to better control the parade and organize yourselves. To be specific: I will explore options such as hosting the City's own New Year's Day Parade or changing the City's policies regarding informal cost forgiveness applicable to cultural parades.""He notes that progress has been made in recent years, but more needs to be done. Kenney proposes a meeting between the Mummers and the city. You can see the letter in full below.

Philadelphia Police are looking for two suspects who broke into an ATM-style Bitcoin machine and stole the cash inside. The incident was caught on surveillance video. It happened around 6 a.m. Tuesday, 1/21, in a store on the 7200 block of Frankford Avenue in Mayfair. Police say that two men entered the store with crowbars and broke open the Bitcoin machine. They then took the cash box and fled. If you have any information, contact police at 215-686-3153.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a possible child luring incident in Delaware County on Wednesday, 1/22. It happened around 3 p.m. on Rebeccas Lane near Thornton Road in Concord Township. A 12-year-old female Garnet Valley Middle School student exited her school bus. Moments later a man approached her and showed her a pornographic video on his phone. The man then asked if she would perform sexual acts with him. She ran home. The man is described as Hispanic or Asian, mid to late 40s, short black hair, beard, wearing a baseball cap. He was driving a white or cream-colored sedan. If you have any information, contact police at 484-840-1000.
