Philadelphia health officials announced the first presumptive positive case of coronavirus in the City of Philadelphia at a press conference Tuesday afternoon, 3/10. The patient is an adult and is being treated at home. Philadelphia officials are tracing any contact they might have had with other people. As of Monday night, 3/9, the city was investigating 5 possible cases of COVID-19. There are 11 presumed positive cases in the state of Pennsylvania, most of those are in the surrounding Philadelphia suburbs.

Health officials are recommending that people avoid large public gatherings of more than 5,000 people, especially if you are older and have compromised health. At this time, Philadelphia officials are not canceling any events, including concerts, sporting events, or the St. Patrick's Day parade.

The Conshohocken Saint Patrick's Day parade scheduled for this Saturday, March 14th has been postponed until Saturday, March 28th.

Resident halls and south campus apartments will also not be open.

On Monday night, 3/9, there were multiple shootings across the city. Two men were shot around 6:30 p.m. on the 5200 block of Pulaski Avenue in Germantown. A 29-year-old man was shot one time in the head. He is in critical condition. A 44-year-old man was shot in the right leg. He is in stable condition. Another man was shot just before 7:30 p.m. on the 1100 block of West Somerville Avenue in Logan. He is 23-years-old and was hit once in the left side of the head, once in the left ear, and one time in the left collarbone. He is in critical condition. Another man was shot and killed outside of a Chinese restaurant. That happened just after 10 p.m. on the 2900 block of Ridge Avenue in Strawberry Mansion. The 30-year-old victim and the gunman had exchanged words outside the restaurant before the gunman opened fire. He was shot in the head and back. The man died at the hospital. No arrests have been made in any of these shootings.

Philadelphia Police are searching for a suspect wanted for burglarizing a home in Point Breeze last week. It happened around 4:30 p.m. on March 3 on the 1300 block of South 21st Street. The man was caught on surveillance video. The suspect broke into the front door by slamming into it with his body several times. Once inside he stole several items.
